Our Goal is to decrease the likelihood of generational incarceration
In 2015, our founder, Mone'e Williams-Patrick, started Outside The Bars as a peer support group for high school students struggling with parental incarceration. While Mone'e was a junior in high school, her father was awaiting trail. His possible sentencing weighted heavily on her causing her to feel sacred, alone and ashamed. As the trail date approach Mone'e's grades drop tremendously and she began to isolate herself in social setting. After two friends approached Mone'e about her distant behavior, she eventually confided in them just to find out they too had father's that where imprisoned. Soon after, Outside the Bars was created. Since then Mone'e has obtained her BSW and evolved Outside The Bars to a non-profit organization that support students through therapeutic groups, art therapy, creative expression and career exploration.
We are a community-based organization focused on helping make the world around us a better, happier place. With the help of our tireless staff, we organize visitations to correctional facilities, fundraisers, out of school time programs, group counseling, and in-depth training sessions for our volunteers.
We connect children to peer mentors to give emotional support through challenging times of life.
Outside The Bars promotes positive relations with peers who have similar experiences to omit the secrecy and loneliness that youth often encounter. We provide peer support, art therapy, financial literacy, family mediation, college access and more!
We are always seeking out volunteers who are eager to improve the community and strength the minds of children.
We aid in overcoming the shame, embarrassment and challenges. We aim to give children direction and assistance during our out of time time program; through, education, therapy and love.
Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and improve conditions. Your generous donation will fund our mission.
